The Cyrus 40 PSU External Power Supply Upgrade can be used for any of the Cyrus 40 Series devices. This includes the integrated amplifier, CD player, and streamer. The PSU upgrade is microprocessor-controlled and provides the optimal output for each device. It also keeps any possible source of interference away from the connected unit. As a result, the audio background is whisper quiet.
Intelligent PSU
Cyrus has been building external power supplies for a long time and the Cyrus 40 PSU External Power Supply Upgrade is the culmination of many years of development. The unit communicates with the connected device to provide the optimum supply voltages. This maintains the best configuration at all times.
Multipin connector
The multipin connector feeds multiple supplies to the connected device. These are digitally controlled internally. The Cyrus 40 PSU External Power Supply Upgrade unit is very stable and well-shielded. As an upgrade, it removes any possible source of interference as the internal PSU of the connected unit is shut down when connected.
What does a PSU do?
A power supply provides a wide range of different voltages for the various stages of audio devices. For example, the Cyrus 40 CD player has nine separate regulators. Digital and analogue stages need their own power feeds to prevent mutual interference. Moreover, the PSU itself can emit noise. Hence it is best to keep it away from other units.
There are also two methods of converting the mains into a lower voltage. Linear and switching. Linear systems use standard transformers, normally toroidal types that have a lower magnetic field. These have the lowest output noise. On the other hand Switching supplies use a smaller transformer and are more efficient but can emit high frequency noise.
