Description
The Dali Phantom E-60 WR Weather Resistant Ceiling Speaker is a two-way unit in a compact form factor. The 25mm dome tweeter sits in front of the 165mm bass midrange unit. This provides a wide bandwidth and a high power capability. Moreover, the units are weather-resistant to IP65 standards. Lastly, they are easy to install. There is also a larger version of this speaker named the E-80.
Discreet white baffle
The IP65 weather resistance of the Dali Phantom E-60 WR Weather Resistant Ceiling Speaker makes them suitable for high humidity locations. This includes bathrooms and patios. The white baffle makes them discrete and the swing-out dogleg clamps, make installation easy.
Versatile uses
The Dali Phantom E-60 WR Weather Resistant Ceiling Speaker can be used in covered outdoor locations. This includes the laundry room, bathroom, spa, or by the pool. They can be used for background music or in multiples for stereo and mono installations. Both the woofer and tweeter can be adjusted to point the sound where needed. Also, the sound impresses with a wide bandwidth and punchy bass. The enclosure resists dust and sand and can even deal with indirect water spray.
A quality crossover
As the Dali Phantom E-60 WR Weather Resistant Ceiling Speaker is a two-way design a crossover is needed. This splits the audio frequency range into two components for feeding to each driver. The sound crosses over at 3.2kHz. Notably, the same quality design is used in Dali’s HI-FI speakers.
25mm textile domed tweeter
The 25mm textile domed tweeter is mounted on a decoupled housing. The housing sits in front of the bass/midrange unit. This prevents any mutual interference, delivering clear highs. Moreover, the 5-degree tilt of the drivers means that they can be rotated toward the main listening area. This also tends to reduce any resonances.
Using ceiling speakers
Ceiling speakers are used in what is known as a custom installation. These are usually easier to deploy in new builds. However, they can also be retrofitted. The 165mm driver size of the Dali Phantom E-60 WR Weather Resistant Ceiling Speakers creates a good all-rounder, with decent bass. For larger spaces, the E-80 is recommended. For larger spaces, it is usually better to use four smaller speakers rather than two large ones. It is also best to place the speakers at least 2 metres away from each other.
