Description
The Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono Turntable is a reasonably priced turntable that has a quality phono preamp built-in. This means that it is plug-and-play capable with active speakers as well as amplifiers with no phono input.
It also comes with a Sumiko Rainier MM cartridge. The chassis is made of wood and The platter is made of heavy glass. Additionally, the 9” tonearm is made of a single piece of aluminium for rigidity. Lastly, speed election is easy with a single switch.
Glass platter and high-precision motor
The glass platter fitted to the Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono Turntable has anti-resonant properties. As a result, glass is a more effective material than either plastic or steel. Next, the electronic speed-controlled motor is controlled by a single switch for 33RPM or 45RPM selection. Additionally, there is an adjustable anti-skate control.
Notably, the tonearm has a tendency to pull towards the centre of the record. This puts more force on one side of the groove leading to uneven groove wear and skipping. As a result, the anti-skate device uses a spring to counter this force.
One-piece 9” metal tonearm
The Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono Turntable comes with an all-metal 9” tonearm. The metal construction adds rigidly and resists resonances. It also has low-friction, precision bearings that aid tracking. The turntable comes fitted with a quality Sumiko Rainier MM cartridge.
High-quality stage phono preamp
The output from an MM cartridge is only around 5mV as a result it needs a preamp so that it can be plugged into a normal line-level input. The Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono Turntable comes with a phono preamp that is more than just an afterthought. It has two stages of amplification as well as precise RIAA equalization.
Lastly, the Sumiko Rainier MM cartridge is a well-specified unit with a low-resonance housing. As a result, the soundstage is well represented and the clarity is good with precise placing of instruments.
