Description
The Response DB1 from ProAc are compact speakers with sound quality that would normally be expected with larger speakers, particularly in respect to the bass response
Although bookshelf speakers are very accurate and sound superior in some aspects than larger floorstanding loudspeakers, the disadvantage of them is their bass extension and the overall size of the sound stage. A large volume loudspeaker can produce low frequency signals, with a large sound stage, which is perfect for large orchestral pieces and heavy rock.
The cabinet employed with the DB1's is slightly larger than the earlier D1 model, and is crafted from different thicknesses of high-density MDF, with bituminous damping panels for cabinet resonances. The long throw bass driver has been newly designed with a raised spider and linear motor system, which is fitted in this rear ported cabinet. The mid/bass driver cone is crafted from carbon mixed pulp that is coated in elastic and fitted with our ProAc's acrylic pole damping phase plug.
The crossover is intended to produce a flatter response at high SPL's and the tweeter is a ProAc 1” silk dome which is similar to those in the highly successful ProAc Response D2. The result of the drivers combination is superb midrange and high-frequency reproduction, with low coloration and impressive levels of detail. The driver has a bass quality that is punchy, extended and similar to what you would expect from a larger loudspeaker.
