Description
The Puritan Audio Classic Ultimate Mains Cable is the flagship mains cable from Puritan Audio, it has an extra, highly sophisticated magnetic barrier. This uses nanotechnology to screen out the magnetic aspects of electromagnetic energy. This is designed to provide the best possible noise shielding. Puritan mains cables also use a very soft and flexible plastic insulation. This covers both the conductors and outer sheath, and allows the cable to be easily positioned. Additionally, an anti-friction compound is used to make the cable even more flexible. The unique aspect of Puritan mains cables, is that the shield is dissipative. Any interference is converted into heat.
Shielded Copper conductors
Copper is only marginally worse as a conductor that silver. It is also a fraction of the cost. Moreover, during tests silver was found to have no sonic benefits. As a result, Puritan Audio uses 15AWG stranded wire, for the conductors. This is both flexible and has a low resistance. Finally, the current capacity is 20 Amps. Another factor, is that more flexible cable is less likely to vibrate, due to the audio in the room.
Why shielded mains cables?
There are many sources of electromagnetic interference in the home. Such things as Wi-Fi routers, smartphones and switching power supplies all “broadcast” noise into the room. This can be picked up by unshielded cables and become audible. You also need to use shielded cables if you are using any of Puritan Audio’s mains purifiers. Otherwise, their effectiveness will be reduced.
