Description
Keeping the dust-off records helps with the sound quality and extends their life. The Thorens CA800 Turntable Vinyl Cleaning Arm is an elegant solution to both remove dust and static charges from the playing surface. The cleaning arm is made of aluminium and the assembly is attached by magnets. Moreover, the height and pressure can be adjusted. Keep the dust out of the grooves and preserve both the sound quality and playing surfaces of your records.
Goat hair and carbon fibre brush
The Thorens CA800 Turntable Vinyl Cleaning Arm features a brush with a special mix of fibres. Goat hair has been used to clean records for years. However, here, it has also been combined with carbon fibre. This helps to reduce static charges. Static can cause crackling in the sound. You should also ensure that the stylus is kept clean as dirt build-up can affect the tracking and sound quality.
Why clean records?
Vinyl records need to be kept clean to sound at their best. They have a static charge and attract dust. This debris tends to catch on the stylus creating a fluff ball that can cause distortion and miss-tracking. Cleaning kits are available that contain a carbon fibre brush. However, these are normally only used once during playback. However, the Thorens CA800 Turntable Vinyl Cleaning Arm is in use all the time that the record is playing. This constantly removes dust and debris.
The second issue is record wear and damage. Debris in the groove can act like an abrasive grinding away the playing surfaces on either side of the groove. Thirdly, sound quality can be degraded if the groove is not clean. Dust particles can gather at the bottom of the groove pushing the stylus out of place. Leading to distortion.
